With over 6 million square meters mapped this year- a 30% increase from last year- we’re creating pathways to independence, connection, and freedom for thousands of users.
From events like SXSW Sydney, Ability Fest to organisations like Wotton & Kearney, KPMG offices, and the ACT Administrative Appeals Tribunal (ACAT), we’re proud to partner with champions who are making their spaces more accessible. Our mission to make every space 100% accessible is more than a goal; it’s a reality we’re building every day.
Retail Breakthrough: Introducing Hyperlocal Technology
2024 marked our expansion into the retail sector with our partnership with Australia Post, launching our innovative Hyperlocal blue-dot technology in several post office retail stores across Australia.
We are redefining indoor navigation with unmatched precision, requiring no beacons, wires, or building modifications.
Josh Bannister, Executive General Manager at Australia Post, shared his excitement, saying, “The introduction of this technology is a great opportunity for us to support the vision-impaired community.”
We also completed the Hyperlocal Challenge, as part of the NSW Government’s Small Business Innovation and Research program run by the Office of the Chief Scientist and Engineer. The innovation grant we won as part of this program meant we were able to work with Transport for NSW on our Hyperlocal technology, which is now being rolled out to new and existing clients.
Innovating Accessibility: BindiWeb Goes Outdoors
We’ve enhanced BindiWeb with GPS localisation and outdoor routing, enabling users to navigate seamlessly between indoor and outdoor spaces. Whether traveling by car, bike, foot, or public transport, BindiWeb now offers alternate routes tailored to your needs. With support for over 200 languages, accessible wayfinding has never been more inclusive or global.
Impact at Scale
Our accessibility mission reached new heights this year:
- We mapped various locations across Australia and internationally, including Wotton & Kearney, KPMG offices, ACAT (ACT Administrative Appeals Tribunal), Disability Expos and more.
- Major events like the Australian Open, Australian Disability Network IMPACT Conference, AbilityFest, and SXSW Sydney showcased our technology to thousands.
- Recognised as a Gold Standard for accessible buildings by Guide Dogs and selected for Bupa’s #ecoDisruptive 2024 program.
Driving Social Impact: Aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Our work directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities: Making public spaces accessible to everyone.
- SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth: Enabling communities where all abilities thrive.
- SDG 3: Good Health & Wellbeing: Reducing stress and anxiety associated with poor wayfinding.
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities & Communities: Building inclusive, barrier-free environments.
User Stories: The Heart of Our Mission
This year, we grew our user base by an incredible 285% from 2023.
The experiences of our users inspire us to keep innovating:
“I couldn’t have done it by myself. [BindiMaps App] helped me independently travel around.”
“Being an introverted person, sometimes I don’t like asking for directions. That’s where I use BindiMaps.”
“This place is huge! I would have easily gotten lost without BindiMaps.”
These testimonials remind us of the real-world impact of our technology on our end users .
Looking Ahead
2024 has been a transformative year, but the journey is far from over. With more innovation, partnerships, and a relentless commitment to accessibility, we’re ready to break down even more barriers in 2025 and beyond.
Here’s to a future where accessibility is the standard, not the exception.
